Smart Kigali Initiative

Smart Kigali is the initiative which was launched in September 2013, which allows citizens to access free Wi-fi all over the city.
 The initiative is made possible with a number of agencies such as Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Agency (RURA), Rwanda Development Board (RDB) Rwanda Hotel and Restaurants Association, the City of Kigali as well as Internet Service Providers. 

Kigali is one among the top ten African cities with free Wi-fi.

Kigali became the first city in East Africa to launch free wireless internet access, it follows foot steps of big cities like Toronto, Houston, Bangkok and Taipei.

The country's vision 2020 is to aiming at changing Rwanda into a middle income country and information rich society. This is seen possible with Smart Kigali Initiative.

Following this initiative, Rwanda government has signed a contract with South Korea to build a 4G network which will consequently reach 95% of the population.
